We are reaching out to clarify what has been going on in our district community over the past few days. We have been made aware that many people have received emails that contain misleading information in regards to the Equity, Inclusivity and Diversity in Education policy that was presented at the school board meeting on Thursday night.
During the meeting, Trustee Lakhtakia presented the proposed equity policy and regulation that have been developed over the past few months by the policy subcommittee of the District Equity and Inclusion Committee. Here is a link to a video of the board meeting – the discussion of the policy begins around minute 3 and lasts about 30 minutes.
At the May 11 board meeting, the policy will either go through a second read or be considered for adoption. To clarify, the school board adopts policies and regulations and it is the responsibility of the school district to implement them.
We encourage you to read the policy and regulation and watch the board meeting video. In addition, the district now has a section of their website dedicated to the work of the District Equity and Inclusion Committee. Please bookmark and check for updates regularly!
